Today - 6 October 2011, our human rights record comes under examination by the United Nations as we face our first ever Universal Periodic Review.

Over the last few months a 17 member coalition of leading organisations have worked hard under the 'Your Rights. Right now' banner to hear our voice and ensure that diplomatic representatives in Geneva are fully informed about the situation in Ireland.

Today sees Minister Alan Shatter defend Ireland's human rights record in a three hour hearing at UN headquarters.

Its been too long but we are delighted to have another Air artist in our postcard racks. Chity Soy Yo is an illustrator, graphic designer and toymaker from Montevideo. His series of postcards shows his Amigurumi creations. Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures.

Cycle 15 and 16 Activity

In Cycle 15,16 and now 17 we have run campaigns for Horrible Bosses, Tarantula Falls, Carling Cup, MEAS, Crisis Pregnancy, Carlsberg, Ballygowan, Meteor, Eristoff Vodka, Vodaofone, Bulmers, 7up, Movie Fest, Miller and WKD.

The Street Team undertook a successful and popular Little Big Gesture activity for FBD at Apple Green Garage in Mount Merrion, Dublin. The customers of the garage were pleasantly surprised to receive a a petrol voucher worth 5 euros.

The Street Team were also out in force around Croke Park last weekend providing money off vouchers for Bulmers in the pubs surrounding the ground.
We also have some new i-site research which we will share with you over the coming weeks.

Through our City Card racks we carried campaigns For Vodafone Comedy Festival, Irish Seed Savers, Bulmers' Doing our Bit' and the electic shop Find.

June is always an exciting month for our postcard racks as they are filled with a mixture of commercial and artistic postcards.

This month’s artistic postcards come from a combination of photography students from Griffith College and independent artists that approach us to distribute their pieces in postcard format.

We received an assortment of designs produced by The Dalkey Book Festival which is on this weekend- hopefully the rain will stay away. The festival was set up to celebrate and foster the wealth of literary talent in and around the town.

There is also a postcard for Bike 2 work day in our racks which has details on how to win an Ipad on the reverse. Check out our racks for more information.

Happy to report we are having a busy media month. Rehab have just launched their new 'heads up' campaign and we have 3 executions in our city card network throughout the country (www.headsup.ie). Heineken have a campaign running with us to highlight the prize trips available to the UEFA final later this month (www.heineken.ie). For Coors Light we ran campaign to promote their weekender in
Galway which comprised of city cards, i-sites and a customised fly poster network. The Outdoor Music Festival season is fast approaching
and we are just starting a campaign distributing the new Meas Festival Guide (www.meas.ie) available in a City Card rack near you.

Sonas Viva Women's Charity have undertaken a campaign this month. Again this has custom developed distribution. Jameson have just launched their new campaign 'Bear in the Area' for easygoing folk. These are in distribution now and more information is available on Facebook. May 18 sees the launch of Disney Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides in Ireland. To pick up promotional cards for this movie you will need to out and about in Limerick, Galway or Cork. Little Island Books ran a wonderfully targeted campaign through 20 venues promoting their just published book Thin Ice. Our creative wing Foundry (www.foundry.ie) also a card spinning through the
network and as always the new edition of Movies Plus is now available for your perusal.

We were recently in Galway as part of FBD Little Big Gestures Campaign. The customers of Mocha Beans Cafes in Galway City and Salthill were treated to their early morning coffee by FBD. This morning as part of their 'Little Big Gestures" movement, FBD gave a free coffee and a chocolate between 8-11 am to all the patrons of Butlers Chocolate Cafes in Grafton St, Chatham St, Nassau St and Wicklow St. There was plenty of smiles and good vibes. Small gestures of kindness can be really BIG. We hope this small gesture brightened peoples mornings.

The Picture Works have been busy for the past couple of weeks. The legendary AMI ( Alternative Miss Ireland If you ain't in the know) printed a City Card to promote their show in the Olympia. The postcard was designed by Niall Sweeney of pony design . We also ran a campaign for 'Charlie Casanova' which was being shown at SXSW during the month.

This month we announced our annual art competition with a slightly later closing date this year of June 21st. Check out our site for more information on how to enter the competition.

We had campaigns running on our Super Screens (which just for Eco watchers have a carbon offset, every time they are used) for Jameson Dublin Film Festival and for Guinness Rugby. They looked as impressive as ever in both in day light and at night.

Recently we have been working on developments with these screens and can now offer them displaying 3D , yes we will organise the glasses and the venue. We also developed the capability link these screens to tablet computers and means we can bring interactive apps to the big screen. When we say big we mean big 100 mtr screen.

Not resting on our laurels we have also fine tuned our interactive light projections to turn high street windows into interactive screens, think minority report and you more or less have the idea.

Not to neglect the media research side of things our media has performed really well in tgi research with City Cards blowing all other Out of Home Media out of the water for 15-24 year olds. Check out our website for more information and stats. We are also eagerly waiting results of an independent research on our I-site media.

Mickey Rourke is the face of Bavaria's new election-style format posters which are currently displayed in our lightboxes around the country.

Womens aid are using our network to run alongside their National Public Awareness Campaign on Dating Abuse. The campaign is target at 18-25 year old women. i-Site is an ideal format for them as 18-34 year old adults are 54% are more likely to have seen product advertising in pubs and clubs in the last week in comparison to other OOH Media.(TGI, 2010)

Heineken Green Spheres in Galway

In order to promote upcoming the Heineken Green Spheres gigs in Galway, Heineken printed and distributed both A1 and A3 posters as well as postcards with The Picture Works. We distributed the posters in venues around Galway City. The postcards went into out 25 postcard racks that we also have in Galway. After 1 week Heineken provided us with new creative and we printed and distributed a fresh batch of posters and postcards which revealed that The Go! Team and Cut/Copy would be playing gigs in March. It is December Christmas and 2011 fast approaching with prospect of change to be embraced.

As our urban centres busy themselves for the final christmas rush are city card racks are full and ready to entertain and inform.

Luas have 2 postcard campaigns for Dublin promoting their innovative Hop Shop and Drop service which is a shopping bag minding service. Pretty smart you got to admit! With that there is also have a competition to win free Luas travel for a year. The second promotes the Luas night service which is even running on New Years Eve. Their website also has full details.

There are a number of Christmas cards running through the racks. One is from the folks at St James Gate. We have also produced one ourselves which we hope you like. Thames and Hudson used an image from their Manolo Blahnik book -it looks stylish and festive.

There is also a very stylish card for Find which brings something new and passionate to Temple Bar. The John Galliano quote rings true 'this is a credit crisis and not a creative crisis'.

I particularly like the Aware card - a hopeful beach!

This is the month of Tron. Technology is to the fore with this months cover with augemented reality from Buena Vista. Slick. The first time we have had an augmented reality piece through the racks .

The HSE have the creative campaign for promoting safe sex with 5 executions in total.

Barnardos Light Walker

The Picture Works and Barnardos teamed up last Tuesday to communicate a poignant PR message via Light walker projections on behalf of under privileged children of Ireland. The message was illuminated and brought to life in very close proximity to key government builds, was very simple but powerful- “Dreading December”.

The projections were also intelligently placed/targeted e.g. projections on other government buildings like the Financial Exchequer.

Our projections on the Dail were picked up by the Irish Examiner last Friday driving home the message to the masses that under privileged children of Ireland are truly dreading the budget that is to be released on December 7, 2010.

We are extremely proud to have been involved in and support this incredibly important cause.

The most recent issue of Movies + is currently in our City Card postcard racks. The online version of the magazine, Movies.ie, recently underwent a major revamp with a brand new layout and extra features added. The site is also shortlisted for the 2010 Eircom Golden Spider awards, which takes place next month.

The site also picked up the award for BEST ENTERTAINMENT WEBSITE at the 2010 Irish Web Awards. The glitzy event, hosted by DJ Rick O'Shea took place last weekend at The Mansion House in Dublin. Over 500 of Ireland's major websites were nominated for the event and the results were selected by over 140 judges. Other winners on the night include Irishtimes.com, Slate.ie, hostelworld.com and 98fm.ie

Our creative wing Foundry has created a campaign for Dublin City council professional cycling Street Race on Saturday 19th June which is part of bike week. The image was inspired by the graphics from the Munich Olympics.

The campaign includes City Cards , Direct mail piece, i-site posters and A2 poster displayed in cycle shops throughout Dublin.

In recently published TGI results our City Cards and i-site posters are the highest performers in OOH Media for 18-34 year olds.

According to the research "18-34 Adults are 60% more likely to have seen free postcards than all adults in the ROI in the last week". This amounts to 152,000 18-34 year olds have seen Postcard Advertising in the last week.

With our i-site in pub poster media
"18-34 Adults are 62% more likely to have seen product advertising in pubs/clubs than all adults in the ROI in the last week" which corresponds to 384,000 18-34 year olds have seen Advertising in Pub in the last week.

This is the first time our media has been included in the TGI figures and we are very happy with the results.

Our print site www.thepictureworks.com has a new campaign 'You Create We Print' to promote our service with the first execution in the racks now.

The campaign with the most variety comes from DIT Final Year Exhibition, whereby students have come together and have put a campaign out through the city with 34 executions. We like this campaign a lot and love the variety.

DIT Design Show Postcards

This month, DIT students studying Vis Com, Interior Design and Product Design have decided to use our postcard racks to promote their up coming design show. Each student printed between 100 and 400 postcards using their own design to promote the exhibition which resulted in 34 different cards! The cards will be distributed in our city centre venues and each rack will have a different student's design in it! If you are interested in doing some thing similar get in touch.

Last week we installed 12 new i-sites around the bars in the RDS just in time for the Leinster Heineken Cup Quarter Final. There was a full house and great atmosphere in the grounds. Loreal are using i-site to promote their male range Men Expert's Eye roll-on for which is designed to reduce the appearance of bags and dark circles.

Guinness Rugby, Initiative and The Picture Works are currently promoting the new "Area 22" Rugby iPhone application with a multi market ROI digital ambient campaign. The app is jam-packed with all you need to keep informed, entertained and in tune during the upcoming Irish Rugby Internationals.

The Picture Works designed, constructed and produced a giant iPhone installation with a large back drop incorporating Guinness Rugby above the line creative. Our giant iPhone is equipped with touch screen technology ala minority report which makes it hugely entertaining and interactive for the Guinness Rugby target as shown in the video above.

Diageo clients and publicans are thrilled with how this has unraveled so far. This style of ambient promotion would translate brilliantly to telecoms, alcohol, tourism, films and entertainment categories. Great to get this kind of engaging activity on a media plan as a media innovation or as a pr stunt. This could be very exciting if tied into/or used in conjunction with a brands digital platform also.

So far the installation has been implemented in Jury's, Baggot Inn, Sinnotts, The Bleeding Horse and Soho in Cork.

Our EvenTv Screens were seen by thousands of Rugby fans as they entered Croke Park last weekend. After the match there was also 2 mobile screens that could be seen around Dublin city centre on behalf of Guinness and Jameson.

This is what Vizeum had to say:

“For the JDIFF campaign Vizeum and The Picture Works worked together to bring the TV ad to it’s core audience of males aged 25-34 ABC1 through the outdoor medium by running on a 25 metre Digital truck where the TV ad was displayed on a loop at Croke Park for the Ireland v Italy 6 Nations match. This was a very effective way of reaching the Jameson audience on their way to and from the match and was very impactful on the day. Given the mobility of the Digital truck we were able to target the high footfall areas throughout the day to great effect.”

Light Walkers and Urban Screens for G250

The Guinness 250 celebration proved to be a great day and night in Dublin. There was serious buzz and great atmosphere in and outside the pubs. By all accounts some of the live music was just incredible but we didn’t get much opportunity to witness that (except maybe a couple of moments in the vicinity of Calvin Harris and wished it was longer!)

We had 6 very high quality mobile screens which we parked up outside the music venue bars and drove around various areas of the city. We think they looked pretty impressive both in daylight and at night.

In addition to these screens we were out around busy bars with our Light Walker Projections. We got a great reaction from people in the street and the crowds of people drinking outside pubs enjoying a very rare balmy night. Who do we lobby to have it again next year?

The Arthur's Day celebrations begin in Dublin at 17:59 with a global toast to Arthur Guinness to mark the 250 years since he signed the 9,000 year lease on the St. James's Gate brewery and kick off the beginning of the Arthur’s Day global events. In Dublin thousands of people will be coming together to experience the live music events in over 30 venues across Dublin from intimate gigs in pubs to music venues and even a concert at the St. James’s Gate brewery itself.
